PSG are reportedly in the “final stages” of talks with Barcelona to sign Ferran Torres.
Fabrizio Romano reports on X (formerly Twitter) that the Parisiens are close to reaching a full verbal agreement with the Spain international.
Liverpool were thought to be eyeing the former Manchester City star as a potential option on the right flank following Mo Salah’s departure.

At a potential price point of €50m [£42.7m], this feels like a massive bargain that Liverpool have inexplicably overlooked in the summer transfer window.

Let’s go through the list, shall we? He registered 21 goals and three assists in 49 games (across all competitions) for Barcelona in 2025/26 (at a rate of one every 112.2 minutes); he’s 26 years of age, so by no means “washed”, so to speak; and, perhaps, most critically of all, comes with Premier League experience attached.

Liverpool putting their eggs in the Ibrahim Mbaye basket
Now, it’s intriguing that Liverpool are understood to be into the idea of bringing Ibrahim Mbaye to Anfield at a time when PSG are equally keen to offload the teenager.
Now, the Senegal international, we know, is going to cost around a similar price point to Torres, if reports are to be believed. And this is where part of the frustration lies with the Reds’ business this summer.
If we’re keen to replace Salah’s experience on the right flank, why not simply go for the experience already on the market in the Spaniard? Yes, we appreciate this argument perhaps becomes a little more difficult to commit to if the footballer’s price-tag enters the €70m-80m [£59.8m-68.3m] territory Romano mentioned.
And there’s perhaps some wider consideration being given to the fact that allowing PSG to sign Ferran Torres should, in theory, enable Liverpool in talks to bring both Bradley Barcola and Mbaye to L4.
But we’re more than a little uncomfortable around the idea of waiting for another club to complete their business before we get a chance at landing two important targets.
It doesn’t feel like anything close to a sure thing at a point when time is quickly running out in the window.

Firstly, Torres left Man.City after a year and went home because he felt homesick. Why do you think he would come back to England again then? Second, Mbaye is younger and we get a player for longer. As for the idiots whining about FSG and their transfers – did you see what we bought last year? Two of the biggest transfers in the division and the World in Isak and Wirtz, and now Barcola! Just get the two PSG boys in, and add Alex Scott and Djed Spence, and we’re really cooking with gas!
Ambaye is a talented young player with a manager who knows how to develop players into top stars, and that’s what I know about Iraola. Liverpool might need players with a real hunger for victory more than just names that are frequently mentioned as being from the top.

He’s worth 280 billion. Why would one man want all this wealth for himself. When he can never spend it.
Whatever profits he makes from Liverpool it will be peanuts. What is the point. He’s just making FSG richer.
FSG’s approach to recruitment is small club mentality
It’s very simple. What LFC needs right now is to get a DMF. Someone that will slot into that No. 6 role like Fabinho used to do. And then get Ibrahim Mbaye. That’s all. We don’t need to pay so much money for Barcola.
