‘A Rolls-Royce in the making’ – Lewis Steele wowed by Liverpool youngster in victory over Spurs

Lewis Steele was waxing lyrical about one youngster at Liverpool after the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night.

Jeremy Jacquet dropped out of the starting XI in favour of giving Joe Gomez a 45-minute runout upon his return from injury, with the Frenchman then coming on for the second half at Anfield.

The 21-year-old has enjoyed a strong start to his career on Merseyside, with John Aldridge saying that he ‘looks the real deal‘, and his form has even earned him a place in the provisional France squad for their upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures.

Steele heaps huge praise on Jacquet

Just after the final whistle last night, Steele took to X to commend the performances of several Liverpool players as they advanced to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup.

Jacquet was among those to be namechecked by the Daily Mail journalist, who described the centre-back as ‘a Rolls-Royce in the making’.

Jacquet puts in another strong performance for Liverpool

The Frenchman further underlined his growing reputation with a solid performance off the bench against Spurs, with his strong challenge to thwart Omar Marmoush standing out as a highlight.

As per Sofascore, he won both of his duels last night whilst also completing 20 out of 23 passes (87% success) and making three clearances and two tackles in helping Liverpool to victory.

It hasn’t taken Jacquet long to establish himself as the fixed partner to Virgil van Dijk at centre-back, and we fully expect him to come straight back into the starting XI for the Reds’ Premier League visit to Bournemouth on Sunday.

The 21-year-old might still have the occasional lapse in judgement which is all part of his development as a footballer, but in just a half-dozen appearances for his new club, he already looks like an extremely astute addition.

Steele’s description of him as a ‘Rolls-Royce in the making’ will surely be echoed by Liverpool supporters everywhere, and if the Frenchman is this good now, think of the levels he could reach in four to five years’ time!
